In 1984, Bay Area Prabasi was incorporated in the State of California as a non-profit organization by Mr. Apurba Mukherjee, Mr.Ranjit Chakravorti, and Ms. Sulata Sarkar. Also, this was the first Prabasi team that hosted Bongo Sammelan (NABC) for the first time on the West Coast. The first organizational meeting of Bay Area Prabasi was held on October 4, 1973.The meeting was held in the club room of the Family Circle West Apartment complex. Prabasi’s name was proposed by Sunanda Chakravorti and was selected at this meeting. At that meeting, President (Ramen Chakrabarti) Secretary (Late Satya Ray), Jt Secretary (Amitava Bose), Treasurer (Ranjit Chakravorti) were nominated and selected. The first Bay Area Prabasi Durga Puja was done by Mr. Ramen Chakrabarti on this painting (painted on a door panel) by Mr. Uday Sengupta and is still being used for Ma Durga Puja at the Cultural Integration Fellowship in San Francisco.
